Excellence, restored.

Burnham Violin Company is a small business located in the Capital Region of New York that specializes in finding, and having restored, professional grade string instruments of the violin family. It is our greatest pleasure to breathe new life into a neglected instrument and put it back into the hands of a talented player. The company is owned and operated by Ben Burnham, a passionate cellist and enthusiast of violin family instruments. The son of two professional violinists, Ben was raised with classical music as a core entity which served as a foundation for the passion he developed for the instruments themselves. Once an instrument is acquired, restoration work of varying complexity is performed off site by luthiers of the highest regard.

As you browse the site, you’ll notice that we operate in a way that is somewhat other than traditional. Here at BVC, we see great importance in sharing photographic evidence of the restoration work performed every step of the way, and in great detail. It provides an in depth story of the instrument’s return to making music and puts the masterful skill of the luthier in the spotlight. Enjoy.

Our Forte

The bigger the job the better. Pictured here is a “coast to coast post” crack on an incredibly original Georg Winterling violin from 1922. This instrument endured a year long restoration and the result exceeded expectations.

Never cut corners

We pride ourselves in ensuring that every restoration is performed thoroughly, no stone is left unturned, and no corners are cut. Seen here is a 19th century violin that was fitted with a new bass bar after repairing an underlying crack.
